Furukawa Industrial Machinery Systems Co., Ltd. contributes for society as a core company in Furukawa Co. Ltd. Group by supplying various industrial machineries required for social infrastructures. In this issue, we visited Oyama plant and interviewed with Teruo Takaiwa, General Manager of Control Department, and Takuro Shindo, Deputy Manager of General Affairs Section.
Oyama plant started it's operations in 1944 in here as a branch of Ashio plant which functioned as a division of repairs and manufacturing of mining machines and rock drilling machines used in the mines of Furukawa Co., Ltd. (previously Furukawa Mining).
At that time, Oyama plant mainly manufactured large compressors and crawler shovels, and after the World War II, it had been functioned as a supplying source of many different types of industrial machines to society, such as construction machines and transporting machines (belt conveyors) needed for improvements of social infrastructure.
In 2005, we were separated from Furukawa Co., Ltd. with succeeding their general industrial machine business. In 2008, merged with Furukawa Otsuka Tekko Co., Ltd., a company of more than 100 years of history in the industry. We are currently designing and manufacturing pumps, environmental machines, steel structures (steel bridges, etc.), car carriers, and also industrial machines used in mines of crushed stone such as crushers, grinding mills, classifiers, briquettin and compacting machines.
The establishment of our plant in Oyama City seems the result of considerations on traffic availability not only for Tokyo but for other neighboring prefectures in the hub of the Kitakanto region as connecting to Tohoku line with Ryomo-line and Mito-line. And also the location environments in the middle of between Ashio and Tokyo head office was considered.
Nowadays, Shinkansen stops in Oyama, and directly connects to Tokyo station. In addition to the vertical axis of road transportation networks of the Tohoku Expressway, a completion of the Kitakanto Expressway in this April brings drastic improvements of traffic accessibility on the lateral axis.
Further, in the Kitakanto region, including near our plant, there are many partners who have technical capabilities, this is very advantageous location environment to establish partnerships in pursuing our business.

In Oyama plant, designing and manufacturing of pumps, environmental machines, steel structures (steel bridges, etc.), car carriers, etc. are mainly performed.
【Pumps】
A small pack of soy sauce may be found in lunch boxes sold in a convenience store.
From such a small displacement pump (product name: Pico Pump) which can fill a small bag with liquid in a required amount in high precision for foods processing, to a large machine for large-sized civil constructions including slurry or piston pumps transports sludges or sewage in sewage treatment plant, a variety of pumps widely used in society are designed and manufactured.
【Environmental Machines】
From a electric dust collection equipment which removes toxic materials in the smoke exhausted at burning process of steel plants, refineries, or incinerators, in low energy consumption method, to a mobile high performance electric duct collection equipment (product name:e-dusco), a variety of machines to reduce environmental impact are designed and manufactured.
【Steel structures (steel bridges, etc.)】
Viaducts and bridges of main roads such as in Ken-O Expressway and New National Route 4 in Tochigi, and hanging bridges and pedestrian decks in front of stations and walking bridges in cities, many our company built steel structures were installed in Tochigi.
Our plant produced products are used as roads, bridges, or walking bridges you are passing through in your daily lives.
The picture shows "Furukawa bridge", one of the oldest road bridge in Japan, in Ashio in Nikko city. It was built in December 1980 by the design of German designer, and all components were connected by bolts and nuts by revet-less constructions. This is used as only for pedestrians currently by replacing a roll of road bridge to the newly constructed one at its down stream in 1993.

【Car Carriers】
Car carriers which carrying cars on a loading platform could be seen frequently. They are playing an active part in a variety of applications for vehicle inspections, car deliveries, and carrying cars in accident, etc. They are designed and manufactured in this plant, and maintaining the No.1 market share in domestic market.
We have the other plant, Tochigi plant in Omiya District in Tochigi City, they design and manufacture mainly industrial machine products. They have been operating in there since 1970 when Otsuka Tekko Co., Ltd. transferred it's plant from Minato Ward in Tokyo.
【Industrial Machines】
Tochigi is a top producer of limestones. Products often used in limestone mines and crush stone companies, such as crushers, grinding mills (machines to grind big stones to small ones), classifiers (machines to classify stones by sizes), briquettin and compacting machines ( machines to compact pellets from powder), are designed and manufactured.
Our products are playing an active roll in facilities in closely engaged with the livings of Tochigi people and in an equipment improving working environments. Also it is the fact that our products are used in places difficult-to-see its operations, such as inside facilities where people can not enter.
We are accepting plant tours and work place experiences for students from the local schools every year. In this year, 60 students from 2nd grade of the local elementary schools have participated.
Also, we accept many internships from industrial high schools and universities every year, and arranging working experiences.
In addition, under our philosophy of harmony with the community for prosperity, periodic cleaning activities of plant surroundings are held as a part of local environment improvements and conservation activities.
Almost 70 years since our operation started in here as a branch of Ashio plant of Furukawa Co., Ltd., we have developed a great number of industrial machines based on reliable technologies under our corporate philosophies of "Innovation, Creativity, and Harmony". A high economic growth period in right shoulder up had gone to the past, and it is the time of low growth and difficult to predict the future. We believe, it is a mission of our local business to contribute for the development of the local community in cooperating with the people in the community and neighboring companies. We appreciated very much for continuous supports provided from the people in Tochigi.
