Support people closely, for the futures ahead." as company concept, Kubota Corporation is continuously contributing to society by exerting own technical know-how in maximum scale. In this issue, we visited Utsunomiya Plant in Hiraide Industrial Park, and interviewed with Takao Shomura, Plant Manager, and Akihiro Ogami, Manager of Labor Administration Section.

This plant is the only domestic plant for agricultural working equipment, such as combines and rice transplanters, in the company.
Those agriultural products are seasonal products, and this plant provides a Monozukuri system that enable to ship only required products in only required quantities when customers need it, in another words, we maintain the production system with volume-fluctuations through out a year.
For overseas market, this plant is a mother plant of China and Thailand plant, and the core plant to develop our global business mainly in Asia.
In 1969, we selected Tochigi as a manufacturing place of working equipment in Eastern Japan. One of the reason for this selection was that we wanted to have a manufacturing and logistics point for the region of Tohoku, Koshin-etsu, and Kanto where large crop of rice was produced. As of today, this is the only one manufacturing point of agricultural working equipment of our company within Japan.
Because of having many highly skilled partners of Monozukuri in surrounding areas, this place is advantageous from the stand point of parts procurements, and helpful for stable production activities.
Most of our employees are born in Tochigi. From the characteristics of people in Tochigi, they work sincerely and are able to proceed their own jobs steadily.
Also, we feel it is advantageous to be able to feel the great nature of Nikko or Nasu in a closer distance.

"Rice transplanters" and "Combines", produced only in Utsunomiya plant, are featuring industry top-class functionality, durability and operatability.
Both equipment maintain top market share in the domestic Japanese market, and they are exported to overseas market too.
The "Rice transplanters" is equipped with a variety of 5 functions in one machine (transplanting, fertilization, pillow earth moving, herbicide application, a box agent spraying). In order to provide superior operatability, "Super U-U Turning Function" and others are also equipped.
The "Combine" is equipped with an industry top-class of 108 HP engine and "Full open function" for superior maintenance.
We believe it is our roll to continue our manufacturing of products that are trusted and be loved by customers.

As social contribution activities to support the global environment conservation and promotion of Japanese agriculture, "Kubota-e-day" is organized once a year for cleaning surrounding areas. Also "Honen festival" is held in every September, accompanied with a lot of funs such as lottery and fire works, etc. Please come and visit us for the event.
We are accepting plant tours. In 2009, 99 parties, a total of 2,580 persons, participated. In addition, donations of wheel chairs, towels, and soaps are made to local welfare facilities.
"Living together, Human and Environment" as a corporate theme, we would like to contribute in environment aspect, and are working on reduction of energy consumed in our plant by setting a clear target.

Japanese agricultural statics shows, the population in the industry; 2.6 million, average age; 65.7 years old, non cultivated area; 400,000 ha. and domestic supply ratio of food is staying around 40%.
As persons involved in the agricultural business, in challenging with those issues sincerely with taking the slogan of " More for Agriculture, More for farmers. Kubota group supports aggressive-agriculture by our integrated solutions", we further strengthen our activities for the development of agriculture.
In other words, we believe, Utsunomiya plant shall be the plant which can make agriculture and farmers being vitalized and filled with life.
For overseas market, it is not difficult to predict increased demands of agricultural machines from the concerns of food shortages by the growing global population, and the reduction of agricultural populations by civilization or industrialization in new developing countries. As a mother plant to respond to such needs, we are aiming to be the world No.1 plant for working equipment.
