"The unifying force toward a single goal" as a motive power, Keihin Corporation - Tochigi R & D Center continues to making progress for the world leading manufacturer of energy management system. We visited, and interviewed with Kunihiko Numata, General Manager of the Center, and Hidekazu Nagasawa, a member of General Administration Department.
Our company, as an integrated manufacture of automotive parts, are involved in "Brain and heart of automobiles and motorcycles" such as various system modules for electronics controls, fuel supplying, and air conditioning.
Specifically, in a rapidly evolving car electronics field, by utilizing own enhanced mechatronics technologies, we introduce creative and value-added new products to the market, and work actively for the next generations of automotive and environment issues by the development of products for environmental conscious CNG/LPG cars and hybrid cars.
Our company was founded in 1956, originally as Keihin Seiki Seisakusho Co.,Ltd. Later in 1997, merged with Hadsys Co., Ltd. and e-Giken Co., Ltd., at same time the company name were changed to Keihin Corporation.
Tochigi R & D Center is a main operation of Keihin's core of system development.
we are striving to advanced environmental technologies for the lower fuel consumptions and exhaust emissions, with having the development room equipped with computers and workstations and the testing room with up-to-date testing equipment, in addition all-weather type research building for performance analysis of vehicles.
The R & D Center was developed in 1997, as Tochigi R & D Center of e-Giken.
After the merger, the name was changed to Keihin R &D Center.
According with the growth of our business, an extension of facilities had been made year by year. We were supported by both organizations, the Land Development Public Corporation of Tochigi Prefecture and Joho-No-Mori Tochigi very much for the extensions of the land and buildings. We appreciated very much for a smooth completion of modifications by the supports of Tochigi prefecture and Takanezawa Town.
The climate of relatively warm and almost no snowing is good to concentrate on our works.
Tochigi office and Tochigi R &D Center is called the brain of Keihin, which manage research and development of automotive and motorcycle fuel supply systems, electronics systems, and air condition systems, with various testing equipment to simulate actual working environments for vehicle testing and engine testing, etc.
Research items include, fuel supply products such as injectors, throttle bodies, and intake manifolds, also electronics control products such as engine control unit in researching the performances of not only each component but also a total system.
For air conditioning systems, we are focusing it as our future core business as a products required when the power sources of cars have been changed.
This is an activity jointly organized within the companies in Joho-No-Mori, our employees are cleaning parks around our companies periodically.
Because of a large number of participants from companies in Joho-No-Mori, parks are always kept clean, it may be difficult for you to find even a refuse.
As a whole company, we promote tree-planting activities in mainly overseas. Many years ago in Japan, there was a large forest fire at Marumori in Miyagi Prefecture, and many trees were destroyed. We still do tree-planting in there too.
"Abukuma" river is streaming from Fukushima to Miyagi prefectures. In each year before the tourist season, "Abukuma River Cleaning" is held, and more than several hundreds of Keihin employees are joining to the event.
For environmental issues, we are focusing as a company. As the result, we were ranked in 8th place within the industry, and 40th as a total in the 14th environmental management survey conducted by the Nippon Keizai Shinbun.
We are doing our best in what we can do so far, and looking for additional activities. We would like to actively participate if we can be a support for the prefecture and municipalities.
We have our company philosophy "Keihin Philosophy" which defines how Kenhin Group employees suppose to be. Within the philosophy, there are "Fundamental beliefs", " Corporate principle" and "Acting guide policies". We are aiming to achieve the "Corporate principle" by "Acting" based on "Beliefs". Especially in the "Fundamental beliefs", its stipulate "Share our joys with our society by being a model of the corporate citizen".
We, as a member of society, would like to proceed in keeping a partnership with people. And while in proceeding together, we would like to find what we can do for society.
It is a company obligation to make a profit. And we must foster people by the profits produced. We believe, the realistic circulation of this cycle of fostering enable to develop people constantly and continuously, and further leads to our social contributions.
At the East Japan Earthquakes, our manufacturing plant in Miyagi had been damaged. By the supports from many people and employees, the plant could be restarted its operation from March 21. Currently, we are conducting volunteer activities for the reconstructions in the struck areas.
