With the philosophy of "Delicious, Fun, and Healthy", Morinaga & Co., Ltd. is striving for providing values and excitements. In this issue we visited Oyama factory and interviewed with Shuuichi Yamasaki, Plant Manager, Tateo Shimazoe, Deputy General Manager in Administration Department, and Ken Tsukahara, Deputy General Manager in Engeneering.
【Products produced in Oyama Factory】
Our company's main business is producing and marketing of confectioneries (candy, biscuit, chocolate etc.), foodstuffs (cocoa, cake mix etc), frozen desserts (ice cream etc.), and health care products (jelly drinks).
As a manufacturing point of company's core confectionery business, Oyama factory manufactures products such as Chocolate Ball, Angel pie, and Milk caramel.
All products are delivered from here and lined up at the shops all over Japan.
A large packaged product for souvenir sold at airports are also manufactured in here. They are very popular for visitors from abroad.
【Choco-Ball Chocolate Spraying Process】
Tochigi Prefecture is located in the rather center of Japan than the center of Kanto, an excellent location for production and logistics.
In Oyama City, there are crossing main roads of New National Road Route 4 in south to north and National Road Route 50 in east to west. Especially the New National Road Route 4, in which the number of lanes has been increased in some areas, is excellent for our transportation.
For the weather in Oyama, it is seldom to have a snowing. In northern areas, production line may be stopped by the snowing effect on logistics of materials, but it not happens in Oyama factory. In addition, typhoon never hits directly Tochigi in summer. Tochigi Prefecture is a place of few natural disasters by winds and flooding, we believe.
【Packaging Process of Milk Caramel】
Basically each our product has an exclusive manufacturing factory to be produced. As mentioned previously, this plant is manufacturing products such as Chocolate Ball, Angel pie, Milk caramel, and a whole manufacturing process, from the raw material processing to the packaging process, is integrated. (In the case of chocolate products, processed cacao materials at the other plant are transported to this plant )
All those products, including variation of the local branded products or seasonal products, are manufactured in Oyama and distributed to all over Japan.
When you see those Chocolate Ball, Angel pie, and Milk caramel at shops, it would be appreciated if you recognize and feel friendly as a product made in Tochigi.
【Plant Tour Course】
Firstly, we conduct plant tours, mainly for elementary schools in the community. We can invite only limited number of persons for our plant tours, but over 10,000 people visit Oyama plant annually. In the past, an over 100-year-old person, she normally did not go out, visited us saying that "I wanted to visit Morinaga Factory", according to the source. It is delighted to hear such preferences and supports for our products and our factory.
In addition, we are participating to the local government's activities and events. For example, we supported to make a text and sub-text books for the Oyama Education Committee.
With providing details of our manufacturing process, we supported their design and contents making process of the sub-text book to make every student feel like "Let's make plant tour".
【Kyoro-chan】
【Entrance of Oyama Factory】
Our Oyama Factory is called "Kyoro-chan's hometown factory" in another words. "Kyoro-chan" is a mascot character of the Choco-Ball products. It is appreciated if everybody know that she has been born in Oyama, and has been delivered to all over Japan.
In addition, it would be grateful if our Morinaga products help to have better communications among your families and friends.
