Showa Denko K.K.- Oyama plant was developed in 1961 as Showa Aluminum Co., Ltd - Oyama plant, and has been led to the current through a merger of Show Denko K.K. and Showa Aluminum Corp. in 2001.
The Oyama plant is one of the largest plant of our aluminum business operations in and out of Japan. By dissolving Imported Aluminum ingots, this plant is producing alloys according to the applications of various aluminum products such as extrusion materials, OA equipment parts, heat exchangers for automotive, invertor cooler on hybrid cars, and hard discs for PC through the integrated production system.

This plant is producing unique featured various kind of aluminum products in four separate divisions depends on product categories.

[Extrusion and Functional Material Division]
Large and complicated shape of extrusion materials (die cast,tube, bars), OA equipment parts (photo sensing drums), and automotive parts are manufactured. 　

[Automotive Heat Exchanger Division]
Automotive heat exchanger (condenser for car air conditioner, evaporator, condenser etc.), and industrial heat exchanger (oil cooler, heat sink, thermal-coil etc.) are manufactured.
[Hard Disk Division]
Hard discs for PC are manufactured.
[Cooler Business Development Division]
Invertor coolers for hybrid cars, jointly developed with Toyota, are manufactured. Those are equipped on Prius cars.

A total number of work force of 1,400 persons, including 900 full-time employees and 500 part time or contracted workers are working here.

Tochigi Prefecture and its Business Environment

Showa Aluminum Corp., the predecessor of this Oyama plant, had been originated Sakai City in Osaka.　About 50 years ago, in order to take care of customers located in the Kanto region, at that time they dominated about 60 % of our supply, we made researches for a new location and selected Oyama City by the superiority of the location.

Oyama is located in the Kitakanto region, the advantages of the location has been further improved nowadays, as a vital hub of transportations and logistics with having the Tohoku Shinkansen in 45 minutes from Tokyo, JR Utsunomiya line in south to north, JR Ryomo and Mito line in east to west, and further New National Route 4 and National Rout 50 are crossing.

Also, Oyama area is very seldom to have a large-sized earthquakes, from a risk management stand point, this plant is designated as a place of head office functions when our head office in Tokyo was malfunctioned.

Made in Tochigi

Our products produced in Oyama plant are used mostly as parts or component of the final products, so you may have not seen or touched them, but they are used frequently around you and helping daily lives of people.

For example, our air conditioners for automotive are equipped on many cars such as Honda. Toyota hybrid car, Prius, is equipped with our invertor cooler. Also such as our hard discs for PC and photo sensing drums for Canon's laser printers, our products are equipped on our various manufacturers final products.

Contributing Local Community

We would like to introduce some of our local contribution activities in 2009.

We conducted plant tours for local high schools, junior high schools and elementary schools. In 2010, totally 130 people visited our plant.

Also we are accepting a work experience class for students in schools for disabled or handicapped children.

Cleaning activities around plant, a place for the summer festival sponsored by Oyama City, Watarase retarding basin, and Furusato (mother land ) Cleaning were performed. So far about 200 persons had participated.

Our gymnasium and ground fields are opened for a local community event. Anybody can enjoy playing Base ball, Tennis, Badminton, or Karate so on in there.

We are participating in "Omoigawa Sakura Festival", "Summer Festival, and Tou-no-mai" jointly with neighboring companies.　 We had an aluminum casting class at the Engineering Faculty in Shizuoka University by dispatching our instructors.

Comments for the People in Tochigi

This plant celebrated the 50th anniversary in 2011 in Oyama. In the occasion, we commit to contribute for the development of the community, Oyama City, and Tochigi Prefecture by working together with neighboring people and enterprises.

For that sake, it is important for us to continue to be a company trusted and satisfied by the people in the community, city, and Tochigi Prefecture. We do our best to obtain better understandings of our plant through our public relations activities including plant tours.
